Blackpool Tower

In 2010 we carried out one of our most interesting projects to date - surveying and modelling the famous Blackpool Tower. Blackpool Council had bought the tower after it had suffered many years of neglect and was in urgent need of a facelift. They appointed Merlin Entertainments to oversee the refurbishment project and to create and run an entertainment complex fit for the 21st century.

Our brief from Merlin was to survey and produce 3D Revit models of parts of the tower, to carry out a topographical survey of the streets surrounding the tower, and to survey the tower building and provided fully detailed floor plans, elevations and sections of it. The 3D Revit model of the upper floors of the tower building were to be used to help with the design of a new 4D cinema and the model of the tower top itself was for redesign work that involved replacing part of its floors and walls with toughened glass to create an exciting ‘Walk of Faith’ attraction.

Our models of the tower really do show that no structure is too complicated for our surveyors to measure and model.
